The Creek Meeting House was built in 1777–1780 by members of the Society of Friends (Quakers) in what is today Clinton Corners, New York. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered the earliest example in New York of the classic Quaker double-plan symmetrical “plain style” architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Historical Society has owned the building since 1995 and uses it for local history programming and as a gathering place for groups from throughout Dutchess County.

To continue to better serve the community, the building requires extensive interior repair and restoration and exterior repair. Funding has already been received to make it ADA accessible and to partially repoint the exterior masonry. This work has been completed.

The Society is seeking to upgrade the building’s oil-fired heating system with an energy efficient HVAC system, install a new kitchen, an additional accessible restroom, new lighting, storm windows, and to complete the repointing the exterior.  Restoration of the interior to its 18th century appearance is the capstone of the project. These projects are estimated to cost more than $1.5 million.

The Historical Society has raised $250,000 including $100,000 from a Dutchess County Community Development Block Grant to make the building accessible to people with disabilities; $30,000 from the Dutchess County Historic Sites Infrastructure Grant Program to repoint the mortar at the tops of the gable ends; and $17,000 from the Preservation League of New York State to complete a Historic Structure Report to plan for the building’s repair and restoration.

In addition, generous private donors have contributed over $125,000 to date.
