Over 20 original quilts from 1850 through 1930 will be displayed at the Creek Meeting House for our free annual summer exhibit beginning Saturday July 6.  The quilts come from local collections and show a wide variety of patterns and materials.  All quilts have descriptive captions noting approximate year made, material, design, and more, and some note local family histories.  . The exhibit also features examples of quilts made from wool and silk including silk “crazy” quilts which combine embroidery with fancy fabrics. Some popular styles of the early 1900’s such as redwork embroidery and floral applique are also on display.  Designs that became popular over the years, such as “Wild Goose Chase”, “Postage Stamp”, “Mariner’s Compass”, “Tumbling Blocks,” and “Jack in the Pulpit” are included.  A “Guess the Design” sampler quilt challenges the viewer to match nine quilt blocks with their correct design name.  All guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite quilt, with the winning selection featured in our fall newsletter.

The exhibit will be held at the Creek Meeting House at 2433 Salt Point Turnpike in Clinton Corners on July weekends, 1-4pm, through July 28.  An opening reception with light refreshments will be held Saturday July 6 at 1pm.  All are welcome.
