“The Brave Montgomery”: MG Richard Montgomery and the First Military Campaign of the Revolution
Presented by Michael A. Boden, Dutchess Community College
In the fall and early winter of 1775, MG Richard Montgomery military led a colonial army
into Canada to bring the “14th Colony” into the fold. While the campaign ultimately
failed, an examination of Montgomery’s role in leading the expedition and his unique
personal history add a dimension to our understanding of personal motivations and
thoughts in the early months of our nation’s journey to independence.
